Letting it air out for a night is usually enough. You can do that outside or in the bathroom. If you store your garment in the summer, make sure to store it in a way that moths cannot reach it. If you do want to wash it, do so very carefully by hand or on a wool wash cycle at a low temperature. ALWAYS use a detergent suitable for wool and silk. But preferably, don't wash it at all. Wool can pill; that is a natural characteristic. Do not pull at the pills, as that makes it worse. It is better to use a good fabric shaver. Always test it out before starting on the main garment.
